Your Liberation Story

The psalmist will find his own hope for freedom from despair in the liberation stories of others.

Read Psalm 77:1-20.

Here, the psalmist cries out to God for relief from whatever is causing his weariness. His relief comes in remembering all that God has done and in recognizing all that God is doing. Rather than dwelling on what is going wrong, he will marvel at the wonderful workings of creation. He will find his own hope for freedom from despair in the liberation stories of others.

When you find yourself going through difficult times, what do your prayers to God sound like? To what degree do you believe that remembering good times helps you through the bad? How can recalling others who have made it through similar circumstances with God-given grace and strength fill you with hope for better days ahead? What do these verses tell us about participating in our own story of healing and redemption?

Today, consider something that is weighing heavily on your spirit. In prayer, meditate on your feelings about this situation and lay them before God. Be open and honest with yourself and with God. Ask for a spirit of gratitude and hopefulness around this situation.
