In this reading, Paul reminds us that the body and the soul are inextricably linked. What is nourishing for one is nourishing for the other. What is destructive to one is destructive to the other. There is much scientific evidence that poor physical health can have a negative impact on mental and spiritual health. Conversely, a healthy body often results in a healthy mind and spirit.
What habits (physical, emotional, and spiritual) do you have that contribute to a healthy lifestyle? What are some habits that would be beneficial to break? Especially in this season of New Year’s resolutions, many take steps to improve themselves physically by taking on healthy habits. What healthy habits might help to improve our mental and spiritual selves? How can each of these goals support and sustain one another?
In prayer, ask God for the strength to set and work towards your goals.
