Fear, Wisdom, and Understanding

Where do you seek and find the wisdom of God?

Read Psalm 111.

Verse 10 begins with, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, all those who practice it have a good understanding.” The word “fear” here does not have to do with being afraid. Instead, it has to do with awe and worship, and the obedience that flows from that. Practicing “fear” in this sense means valuing God’s wisdom over all other sources. We see God’s wisdom in the miraculous workings of creation. We see God’s wisdom in the beauty and blessing of certain relationships. We see God’s wisdom when prayers are answered differently than we expected. We see God’s wisdom when we join our hearts and voices in worship.

Where else do you seek and find the wisdom of God? What are you learning from or about God? What impact does what you are learning have on the way you act and react to the world around you?

Today, choose a line or two from this psalm that is meaningful to you, memorize it, and recite it quietly throughout the day.
