Like our reading yesterday from Jeremiah, Psalm 1 takes us to the stream once again. In this psalm, it is the law of the Lord that refreshes like a cold drink on a summer day. Regular meditation on the scriptures is like sinking our roots into that which gives life and helps us to flourish. It is a practice that helps us absorb all that is good and joyful, all that frees us to live according to God’s will for our lives and for our world. It is a practice that sometimes convicts us and challenges us to turn away from thoughts and behaviors that are contrary to the way of righteousness.
Are there certain passages in the bible that have brought you comfort, given you courage, or challenged you? If you could choose only one verse to read for the rest of your life, which would it be? Today, if you haven’t already done it, memorize that verse and repeat it to yourself several times throughout the day. At the end of the day, reflect on any impact meditating on that scripture might have had on how you responded to people and situations.
