In this vibrant picture, Isaiah describes the fullness of life that will come when God restores Israel. Deserts will bloom and dry creek beds will run with spring rains. And through it all, the prophet says, the Holy Way will run right down the center. It will be a way of life that will be so straightforward, even a fool cannot make a wrong turn. This is good news for those who are stuck—for those who say, “My hands are too weak or my knees too feeble” (vs. 3) or for those whose fear of something new immobilizes them. “Be strong, do not fear,” says the prophet.
In what areas of your life do you feel stuck? What excuses do you use to keep from moving forward? How might God be calling you to the joyous experience of walking the Sacred Way?
